Updated: Jul 31, 2022

RECYCLING IN THE FILM AND TV SECTOR

Are you recycling your Film Equipment?

Film studios are always innovating new ideas bringing new content to our screens whether that's TV Programmes, commercials, or Oscar-winning movies. with technology evolving faster than ever before and film studios buying state-of-the-art audio and visual equipment, the question is are they recycling redundant film equipment securely and ethically?

It is vital in the TV and Film Industry to recycle related items to filming properly from audio and video equipment, stage lighting, and Film Set Props at the end of their shoot. It is essential for studios by-laws to recycle their end-of-life equipment to protect the environment and also for GDPR security.

How Much Waste Does The Film Industry Produce?

The film industry purchases large volumes of materials and WEEE Electronic equipment, that can eventually find its way to landfills or even pile over time cluttering the film sets place of work, affecting the environment and office space in a negative way.

When using the wrong processes of disposal can result in high risks of sensitive data being exposed. This can be from various films production devices such as Laptop, Desktop Hard drives and camera data storage devices.

Vice has released an article "Behind Every Film Production Is a Mess of Environmental Wreckage" and how it's progressively becoming a global issue.

How film studios should dispose of and recycle equipment?
